In daily use, the ARI 458 electric transporter at Bayer AG is mainly used for internal traffic in the [Industriepark Hoechst] (https://www.industriepark-hoechst.com), one of the largest chemical and pharmaceutical locations in Europe. The vehicle is used to complete daily mail and courier journeys electrically. For some months now, an ARI 458 electric transport vehicle with box body is used by the butcher shop “Gunnar Pape” in 17252 Mirow (Germany) to deliver goods from one location to another. The main usage, however, is to provide customers with fresh and warm food on a daily basis.

Additionally, the vehicle is used for catering services, thereby serving the purpose as a delivery vehicle for routes of 60 to 100 kilometers a day. Because of its low power consumption, the costs are only about 2 EUR per 100 kilometer. As a result, it can save around 75% fuel costs in comparison to former vehicles with combustion engines.

With several hundred kilometers of driving distances every week, the ARI 458 electric transport vehicle successfully serves its purpose as a low-maintenance delivery vehicle for meals on wheels.

Sustainability has many facets. In addition to electromobility - as represented by ARI Motors - an important one concerns food and its distribution. Because in Germany several tons of perfect food are destroyed every day, while many economically disadvantaged people experience a shortage. This is where the nationwide "Tafel'' associations come in, which collect excess food and distribute it unbureaucratically to people who are financially weaker.

 

The “Tafel Drensteinfurt e.V” in Drensteinfurt in North Rhine-Westphalia was founded in 2017 on the initiative of Rudi Naerger and has been supporting socially and economically disadvantaged residents of the region ever since. When a vehicle for transporting the goods was to be purchased in 2019, the [ARI 458 Box L](/en/light-electric-vans/ari-458/box) with cooling unit (by now available as Cooling Van (/en/light-electric-vans/ari-458/cooling-van). According to Mr. Naerger, the low purchase price and the quick availability were the decisive factors. With a total price of around 23,000 euros and a delivery time of just a few weeks, the [ARI 458](/en/light-electric-vans) is ahead of the competition as a refrigerated vehicle.

 

The electric transporter used in Drensteinfurt is an [ARI 458 Box L](/en/light-electric-vans/ari-458/box). This has a loading space with a length of 149 cm, a width of 125 cm and a height of 110 cm. This means that more than 2.1 m³ volume is available for groceries and other goods. To keep the food fresh, the vehicle is also equipped with a cooling system in the case that can be controlled individually. According to Rudi Naerger, the vehicle in Drensteinfurt provokes curious reactions and often puts a smile on the faces of passers-by. And the local paper also reported about the volunteer helpers and their small cooling van after the purchase. Charging your ARI electric vehicle is very easy and can be done in just a few steps. All you need is a **standard 230 V socket** and the charging cable supplied as standard equipment. However, charging at a **wall box or charging station** is also possible with an adapter cable. **Fast charging cables** are also available for most of our vehicles, which greatly shorten the charging process.

 

So you have three options to choose from:

1. Charging at standard sockets (230 V) with standard charging cable
2. Charging at type 2 sockets using an adapter cable (also: wall box, charging station)
3. Charging with a fast charging cable

 

**Option 1: charging at standard sockets (230 V) with charging cable (2.5 m long)**

 

Where: e.g. home, depot, business premises

 

How:
1. Open the loading flap on the side of the ARI with vehicle key
2. Unscrew the cap from the charging connector
3. Plug the charging cable supplied as standard into the charging connection
4. Plug the charging cable into the outside socket (230 V).
5. Charge

 

**Option 2: Charging at type 2 sockets, wall boxes or charging stations by using an adapter cable**

 

Where: At charging stations or wall boxes (e.g. at the university, at the place of work, supermarket)

 

How:
1. Open the loading flap on the side of the ARI with the key
2. Unscrew the cap from the charging connector
3. Connect the optionally available adapter cable
4. Plug the adapter cable into the Type 2 socket/wall box/charging station
5. Charge

 

**Option 3: Charging with fast charging cable**

 

If charging is to be particularly fast, the use of a fast charging cable is a good idea. This reduces the charging period by about half.

 

How:
