Clear vision: 9 effective professional tips to prevent car windows from misting up

It often happens, especially in the rain, snow and cold: car windows fog up, obstructing visibility and making it difficult to concentrate and drive safely. Then you have to wipe the windows and mirrors or wait until the heating has blown everything dry. Both take time and nerves that you probably need for other things. So read these 9 effective expert tips against misted-up windows and look forward to a clear view and relaxed driving in ANY weather!

Tip number 1: Set the ventilation system correctly

A little wind has never harmed a windshield. On the contrary. It prevents fogging by simply "blowing away" moisture. Therefore, make sure that the heating fan does not blow completely past the windows and direct some of the air supply to the front and side windows.

Tip number 2: Set the heating or air conditioning moderately

Set the heating or air conditioning to a moderate level and keep it as warm and comfortable as possible. If it is too cold, the moisture inside the vehicle will condense and cling to the cool car windows. If, on the other hand, it is too warm, you will start to sweat, which a) causes additional moisture and b) will probably lead to you turning off the overzealous heating in frustration. And then it all starts all over again ...

Tip number 3: Use a dehumidifier & turn on the air conditioning

Another good idea is to use dehumidifier bags or pads. Placed in strategic areas, such as the dashboard or under the seats, they absorb excess moisture inside the vehicle and thus minimize fogging of the windows. You can also find a suitable dehumidifier cushion right here in our ARI Motors store.

However, a switched-on air conditioning system (available in the ARI 458, ARI 802, ARI 902, ARI 901) also performs similar services, chasing away moisture just as efficiently as summer heat.

Tip number 4: Clean the windows regularly

No pain, no gain. If you want good visibility in all weathers, there's one thing you can't avoid: cleaning your car windows regularly. Inside AND outside, because clean windows fog up less. Because they are so smooth and clean that no water droplets can stick to them. Especially not if they have also been treated with water-repellent window cleaner. Because then nasty moisture doesn't stand a chance!

Tip number 5: Keep snow and moisture outside

Of course, when you come back from the sledging hill frozen through, you only want one thing. Get into the cozy car! But there's one thing you should definitely do first. Remove snow and ice from your jacket and shoes. Otherwise there will be a little snow melt inside the car, which will then silently and secretly settle on the windows and cause maximum visual frustration.

The same of course also applies to dripping wet bathing suits or rain-soaked jackets! So it's best not to leave them in the car at all, and if you do, then keep them as short and well packed as possible.

Tip number 6: Use anti-fogging products or de-icing spray

Treat your car windows generously with anti-fogging products or de-icing spray. These have a very unattractive effect on moisture.

Why? Well, because moisture likes it when it's a bit dirty, greasy and slippery. After all, it can adhere wonderfully to small particles of dirt. On clean, mirror-smooth and impregnated windows, on the other hand, it slips off miserably and has to evaporate without having achieved anything😉.

Tip number 7: Heat the rear window and exterior mirrors

If your vehicle has a heated rear window or heated exterior mirrors like the ARI 458, then use them. This is because moisture cannot condense so well on warm windows or mirrors, which is why it prefers to seek out colder places. This will give you a clear view on all sides and help you get through the evening traffic safely and accident-free.

Tip number 8: Check the door seals regularly

As moisture can get through even the tiniest of cracks, you should regularly check the door seals for defects and make sure that there are no leaks anywhere. If there is, be sure to replace the seals to ensure an impenetrable barrier.

Tip number 9: Change the cabin filter

If, despite all these measures, condensation still forms on the windows, it could be due to a clogged cabin filter. Because if dirt, dust etc. are no longer filtered out of the air, they will settle and attract moisture. Especially in the air conditioning system, in the heating system and also on the windows.

Replace a clogged filter with a new one and put dirt and condensation in their place.
