How durable is my ARI Motors electric vehicle?
Many of our customers are unsure about the longevity of the vehicle and the expected inspection costs. Yet electric vehicles have many advantages over combustion vehicles because many problematic components of conventional drives are not present at all. This means that inspection costs are significantly lower and there are fewer breakdowns due to worn or defective components.
For one thing, the electric motor is much simpler in design than a combustion engine. Susceptible elements such as the V-belt, the timing belt or the spark plugs, which have to be changed frequently and can also lead to serious engine damage, are simply not present. There is also no need to change the oil. This makes inspection easier and reduces the costs involved as well as the general susceptibility to faults.
Furthermore, there is no need for the entire drivetrain, including the gearbox, as power is transmitted directly from the engine to the chassis in electric vehicles. This means that there are no wearing parts such as the clutch, which is subject to heavy loads in city traffic and has to be changed frequently. There is also no need to change the transmission oil.
The lack of emissions is one of the most important advantages of an electric vehicle. In addition to environmental compatibility, this also has the advantage that there is no exhaust system that is susceptible to damage from rust or contact with the ground. Catalytic converters also often cause problems in combustion vehicles and are very costly to repair. Electric vehicles do not have these parts, which eliminates critical factors here.
All these points mean that the inspection costs for electric vehicles are only around half of those for a combustion engine inspection. At ARI Motors, the recommended annual inspection takes around 2.5 hours, which, at an hourly rate of 100 euros, results in net inspection costs of around 250 euros. The inspection can also be carried out by any well-stocked garage, as the basic vehicle does not differ from combustion vehicles and ARI Motors GmbH provides wiring diagrams and repair instructions where necessary.
Of course, the wear and tear of any vehicle also depends on the driving style. Driving with foresight not only reduces the vehicle's energy consumption, but also protects the brakes, chassis and tires. It is advisable to only use a DC fast-charging function for the battery when necessary, as slow charging with alternating current is more gentle on the energy storage system.
