Which driver's license do I need for my ARI Motors electric vehicle in the European Union?

In the European Union, all ARI Motors electric vehicles can be driven with a class B driver's license. In addition, many ARI models can already be driven with a class AM moped driver's license.

In 1999, the driving license classes were reorganized throughout the European Union. Since then, the classes are no longer designated by numbers but by letters.

Moped driving license AM: For ARI cargo mopeds and electric cars ARI 252 & ARI 452

In 2013, the M and S driving license categories used until then were replaced by the AM category moped driving license.

According to the law, the following vehicles may be driven with this license

  • two- and three-wheeled mopeds
  • and four-wheeled light motor vehicles with a maximum speed of 45 km/h

This includes the EC vehicle categories L1e, L2e and L6e.

This means that all ARI Motors cargo mopeds and the ARI 452 electric car, which are limited 45 km/h respectively, can be driven with an AM moped driving license.

Caution! A restriction to 45 km/h does not automatically mean that a vehicle can be driven with a moped driver's license. For the ARI 458, for example, a category B driving license is always required due to its weight, even with a throttle of 45 km/h.

Special regulation for vehicle owners born before 1965

Persons born before 1965 may also drive a vehicle with up to 25 km/h without a driving license. However, only if it has a maximum of 3 wheels.

This therefore only applies to the ARI 145 and ARI 345.

For four-wheeled vehicles with 25 km/h such as the ARI 252 or 452, however, a moped driving license is generally required.

Class B driving license: For ARI vans, electric vans and ARI 802, 902 & ARI Soleno

In order to drive the ARI 458 small electric transporter, the large ARI 901 electric transporter and the ARI 802, ARI 902 and ARI Soleno passenger vehicles, a class B car driver's license is required.

This can be obtained at the age of 17, although owners up to the age of 18 may only participate in road traffic in the form of "accompanied driving".

A category B driving license can therefore be used to drive vehicles in categories L1e, L2e and L6e, as well as motor vehicles with a maximum permissible mass of 3,500 kg and a maximum of 9 seats including the driver's seat - i.e. vehicles in categories L7e and N1.
